Maisara Baroud

In contexts of war and conflict, imagination and metaphor transcend the realm of mere aesthetic tools: they become means of survival, resistance and subversion in the face of artistic and ideological oppression. With his series I Am Still Alive, created in Gaza during wartime, Maisara Baroud offers a visual narrative that mobilises images, symbols and drawings, blending poetry and politics, aesthetics and ethics, thus opening up a space for reflection and engagement that goes beyond words.

Artist and teacher from Gaza. He evacuated to France with his family in April 2025 with the help of the PAUSE programme. He taught at Al-Aqsa University before its destruction. He is currently an artist-researcher at the AMidex ANFAA Chair of Excellence (Aix-Marseille University / IDEAS).
