Irse Por Las Ramas (lost in the branches)
Mistressclass (in English)
‘Irse por las ramas’ is a Spanish expression meaning distraction or flexible attention. It originates from medieval fables in which birds jumped from branch to branch without ever reaching the tree trunk. Jessica Sarah Rinland will give a lecture on the importance of not knowing or negative capacity in the creative process of her work, and how this way of working influences the narrative structure of her films and her artistic practice more broadly.
Argentine-British filmmaker and teacher. She has won numerous awards, including Best Film at DocumentaMadrid, a special mention at the Locarno Film Festival and the Schnitzer Prize from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She teaches at Harvard Summer School and Goldsmiths University. Her films have been selected for Locarno, Rotterdam, etc., and her film Monologo Colectivo won the Grand Prix at Cinéma du Réel 2025.
